WINTER CLASS SERIES 2019

NORSE MYTHOLOGY & THE WORLD OF THE VIKINGS SERIES

Freya's Day's (Fridays!):
January - March 2019 from 9am-12:30pm

Come join Tracy as she retells ancient stories from the Norse world and introduces students to a rich world of mythology, Viking history and culture, along with quality art and drama projects inspired by this ancient world leading to a filmed production of a Norse Myth!

Why is mythology important?  Come explore this question with Tracy and revel in the stories that make us laugh, teach us to question, attempt to bring meaning to our world's deepest wonders, and entertain.  Each class will focus on a different aspect of Viking history and culture and is themed by various myths from the Norse world.

Students can sign up for an individual class, but it is highly recommended to enroll for the series as we will start in chronological order and each class will build upon the last.  Students will work with clay, wax, paint, sew, write, build, act, and eventually film a myth they learn about.  We will also learn about the teachings of Joseph Campbell, an American Professor of Literature, who is famous for his explorations of common themes and archetypes within myths and religions.

COST is $525 and includes all art supplies, materials, film copy and screening/potluck party of student film!

Class is geared for kids ages 8-14 years old and is located in Concord, CA from Tracy's Homey Art Studio.

CONTACT Tracy @ (925) 822-5435 or tracyrandolph@hotmail.com to enroll.

FALL 2018

"THE GREATS"
Famous Artists, Musicians, Scientists & Thinkers
Fall Series

Fridays from 9am-12:30pm

Who are "The Greats"?
The Greats are a collection of famous artists, musicians, scientists, inventors, and thinkers who positively shaped our world with the bravery and persistence needed to follow their bliss, their life's work.

Although each of them faced adversity, they made a consistent decision to continue to do what made them each alive and unique!

Let's dive into their lives to learn who they were and who they became!  Each "Great" is unique unto themselves and so will our projects be!  Some days we will use paints, some days clay, other times we will move our bodies and express ourselves creatively through drama to create short films inspired by these individuals.  Students will walk away knowing the valuable ways these leaders used to express themselves, learn some of their tools and we will make time to reflect on how they too can use their own tools and interests to express themselves right now to make a positive impact.

Sign up for individual classes, by the month at a discounted rate, OR Tracy's 10 class punch card.  Enrollment is open!

Individual Class Cost:
$60

Monthly Class Cost:

NORSE MYTHOLOGY & THE ANCIENT WORLD OF THE VIKINGS SERIES
Freya's Day's:  January - March 2019 from 9am-12:30pm

“Myth basically serves four functions. The first is the mystical function,... realizing what a wonder the universe is, and what a wonder you are, and experiencing awe before this mystery....The second is a cosmological dimension, the dimension with which science is concerned – showing you what shape the universe is, but showing it in such a way that the mystery again comes through.... The third function is the sociological one – supporting and validating a certain social order.... It is the sociological function of myth that has taken over in our world – and it is out of date.... But there is a fourth function of myth, and this is the one that I think everyone must try today to relate to – and that is the pedagogical function, of how to live a human lifetime under any circumstances.”
