NEW JUNE CLASSES!

6/3 FAMOUS ARTIST: CASSAT

Let's get inspired by one of the world's greatest female painters, Mary Cassatt!  Cassatt was well known for paintings and pastels of families and children.  But, she started out just like any other kid who liked art except that during her time people felt women weren't suppose to be artists!  Can you believe that?  Thank goodness Mary didn't give up!  She persevered and devoted her life to art and painted with love in a way few artists have ever been able to do.  Let's take out our canvases and experiment with pastels and paints just like Mary!  We will end our time together with improvisation games and popsicles.

Cost includes all art supplies/materials, popsicle, and take home project.  Ask Tracy about Monthly Membership or Individual Class Costs.

6/10  PUPPET MAKING

Come one, come all to a truly silly day of puppet making!  Using photographs of students taken the week before, we will be creating one of a kind self-puppets that move!  Also on hand will be some coat hanger and feather boa puppets that students will bring to life using ping pong balls!  Using two beautiful puppet theatres, students will make up and act out their own stories with these silly puppets.  We will end our silly day with some silly drama games and popsicles.

Cost includes all art supplies/materials, popsicle, and take home project.  Ask Tracy about Monthly Membership or Individual Class Costs.

6/17 FATHER’S DAY GIFT MAKING

Ssssshh!  It's Father's Day Art making and we have some surprises to create for all the Dad's and father figures in our lives.  But, alas, I cannot tell you what we're making...it wouldn't be a surprise.  Let's just say it will be a one of a kind keepsake that your children put their love into that you will want to keep for forever and ever.

Cost includes all art supplies/materials, popsicle, and take home project.  Ask Tracy about Monthly Membership or Individual Class Costs.

6/24 MAKE YOUR OWN PINWHEEL!
There's nothing like blowing into a colorful pinwheel and watching it magically spin around.  Let's design and make our own fun pinwheels and learn a little bit about the geometry that goes into making these childhood delights.  We will end our day with good old fashioned games and popsicles.

Cost includes all art supplies/materials, popsicle, and take home project.  Ask Tracy about Monthly Membership or Individual Class Costs.

SUMMER ART - "THE GREATS" FAMOUS ARTISTS
August 8th-12th
Monday-Friday from 10am-2pm

Let's take time to explore the life and work of these famous artists while expressing ourselves through our own artwork using various mediums like these "Greats" including clay, watercolor, acrillics, oil pastels, and more!  Students will be using high quality supplies and create one of a kind take home canvas paintings and sculptures after they are viewed gallery style in our Visual Art Maker Premiere (VAMP!) night in October where family and friends can view these young artists work.  There are too many "Great" artists to name, but in this week we will focus on these six artists and their unique contributions to the art world:

FRIDA KAHLO

Let's dive into the life of famous a
rtist and feminist pioneer Frida Kahlo.  Born in Mexico City, Frida is celebrated internationally for her uncompromising depiction of the female experience and form.  Although Frida believed her work reflected her own reality, many believed her work to be surrealistic and dream-like.  Frida used painting as a way to cope and transform the difficult times in her life.  Although she died young, she chose to live life to the fullest despite the health adversity she faced, believing it important to really enjoy life.  These are the big gifts she left behind, including dynamically beautiful artwork with great meaning.  After diving into Frida's life students will have a chance to explore their own inner artist as they paint what inspires them or what they must express in the spirit of Frida.

JACKSON POLLOCK

EVERYTIME we do a Jackson Pollock themed class students excitedly tell me “can we do this ALL THE TIME?”!  It’s fun to try out the same techniques as famed abstract expressionist Jackson Pollock.  Students who like to get messy or want to throw and flick paint onto a canvas will enjoy the therapeutic experience, feeling both dangerous and free.

~

GEORGIA O’KEEFE

How many ways can you explore water color paper, water color paints, and water color pencils?  We will discover the many ways you can add to and layer watercolor painting with household ingredients like glue and salt to add new dimension to our art work.  We will also read about famous artist

Georgia O’Keeffe who used watercolor as a means of exploring the intense colors and light she witnessed after moving to rural New Mexico.

~

SALVADOR DALI

Let's dive into the eccentric life of famous surrealist painter Salvador Dali!  Students will activate their own imaginations, as did Dali, to create works of art based on their own dream worlds.  Students will explore both Dali's eccentric life and examine his paintings.

~

KEITH HARING

Let's explore the life and art of Keith Haring!  Bright colors and universally recognized simple, but profound characters are easy and fun for students to understand and connect to.  After getting to know Haring through a artist scavenger hunt, students will create their own inspired painting on canvas. Working across a variety of media, including subway drawings, paintings and sculptures, Haring (1958–1990) devoted himself to messages of social justice and change.

~

AMEDEO MODIGLIANI

Let’s explore an artist whose mesmerizing portraits reveal very

private stories and emotions on the faces of his subjects, Amedeo Modigliani.  An Italian born painter and sculptor, Modigliani mostly worked in France where he became known for haunting portraits and nudes characterized by the elongation of faces and figures.  Sadly, Modigliani’s light burned bright without critical acknowledgement or success, but with great personal poverty and struggle.   He died at the age of 35 before ever enjoying the popularity and financial success that his paintings now demand.  Let’s pay tribute to this visionary who believed in searching deeply for the truth in every human and artistic experience.  He is quoted saying “When I know your soul, I will paint your eyes” which we will discuss as we view a variety of his portraits, eventually creating our own self portraits in his style with high quality oil pastels.

Class will be held in Lafayette, CA.

Students will need to bring a healthy lunch and water and wear clothes they can get dirty/paint on.

August 15th-19th

Monday-Friday from 10am-2pm

Do you love playing video games?  Ever dream about making your own video game worlds for you and others to enjoy?!  What is it like to turn our video game dreams into a coded reality?  These are the fun and challenging questions we will aim to answer in this week filled with coding challenges for coders of any experience level using programming adventures like Scratch and Tynker, along with Python for more seasoned coders, to create and share our ideas while learning the basics of coding.  Students will create their own Scratch and Tynker accounts which will be shared during a special Visual Art Maker Premiere (VAMP!) night in October where friends and family will be able to play the games these young coders create.  Kids will love being able to code while also being able to take breaks to do free art and play outside or jump on an outdoor trampoline.  Tracy will help students focus on a sense of connection and community where kids have the tools not only to complete their projects but also communicate their ideas to peers in a collaborative way.  Coder Ryan Ramsey will also be co-teaching this class with Tracy.
