GEOPATTERNS
Friday - April 17th from 10am-1pm

Let's explore geometry and patterns found both in art and nature.  Imagine going on a hunt for shapes and patterns, finding as many as you can, and adding them to a class created project.  Let's use our senses to observe patterns.  Direct observation in practice means seeing visual patterns, which are widespread in nature and in art. Visual patterns in nature are often chaotic, never exactly repeating, and often involve fractals. Natural patterns include spirals, meanders, waves, foams, tilings, cracks, and those created by symmetries of rotation and reflection. Patterns have an underlying mathematical structure.  Similarly in the sciences, theories explain and predict regularities in the world.  Let's take a look at some famous artwork that may or may not use predictable patterns and see what the pattern gets us thinking about or feeling.  Let's even create our own geometrical patterns through creative exploration and/or mandalas.  After lunch we will play improvisation games that encourage imagination and collaboration!  We will end class with our beloved organic apple juice popsicle with friends.
